Some more tulip content, this time courtesy of the wonderful team at @mark_payne_landscape_design_ @payneandford.
This Grade II listed farmhouse near Lewes dates back to the early 17th century; the planting has sympathetically managed to blend history with modern-day flourishes.
I was so taken with the avenue of plane trees, leading from the old front door to the wildflower meadow; in Spring, the tulips tempt you out amongst the planting to the hand-laid sunburst mosaic on the terrace.
Mark designed this using salvaged tiles from the original 17th century roof, making the perfect link between historic home and welcoming, abundant, wildlife-friendly garden. Other tulips are found scattered amongst the pebble rill, providing interest and texture as the growing season really gets into full swing.

Neurodiversity Celebration Week is next week! What

Neurodiversity Celebration Week is next week! What better way to kick it off than to highlight the work going into preparing the @adhdfoundation garden for this year’s @the_rhs Chelsea Flower Show. Garden designer Katy Terry (@goodgrounding) took me along to meet world-renowned @davidbegbie, a sculptor working with wire mesh to create distinctive, sinewy forms. David is creating almost transparent wire umbrellas, to represent inclusivity for all those who think differently. These whimsical umbrellas will be suspended from a central tree; they are also a nod to the charity’s umbrella emblem, with the surrounding planting soothing the senses and providing calm.
We both had such a buzz after meeting David and seeing how his creative mind brings his ideas to life! 1 in 5 people are neurodivergent; Katy’s playful garden, sponsored by @project.giving.back, will showcase the immense value that we bring to society, when afforded the freedom to ‘think differently’.

A beautiful garden on the edge of the South Downs, with orchard just coming into bloom and the fiery Fagus sylvatica f. purpurea watching over. Complete calm, just me and the birdsong.

If I’m honest, I quite enjoy seeing snowdrops wi

If I’m honest, I quite enjoy seeing snowdrops with blobs of grit and dirt on them; a symbol of their determination to push onwards and upwards in spite of everything the hard winter earth has to throw at them! I think that subconsciously, I look for the connection that can be made between the plant world and humankind; which is probably the reason that I’m drawn to the non-pristine… 😆

In my years photographing gardens, snowdrop season has regularly been thwarted by storms that weakened branches and rendered gardens unsafe to visit; or flooding meaning that the gardens were unable to open for many pairs of feet. Both threatened the 2025 season in recent weeks, but thankfully it looks to have turned into quite a classic year for the Galanthus population.

These images are all from the superb collection at @thenfordarboretum, on a fabulous visit last week with the @gdnmediaguild. The grey weather made their cheerful little faces an even more welcome sight (the snowdrops, but also the people! 😂).
The Galanthus collection here is beautifully labelled, so I’ve used the last slide to list all these cultivars for you. They have about 1480 more that you can see there, and I’m not even joking! SAVE for future reference…
