WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE?
HOW IT WORKS
01
Booking
Go to the ‘Contact’ page to get in touch initally. We can chat some more about your requirements over email, text, phone or Facetime. When we have an idea about how much time the photography will need, we can get a date into the diary – always being aware that if timing is flexible, a window of available times and dates is helpful in case of unsuitable weather or garden conditions.
02
Pre-visit planning
In my experience, planning ahead always makes for the best results. It’s helpful if I can schedule in a pre-shoot visit to the garden in advance, where appropriate. On this location scout, I will determine the track of the light throughout the day, the best angles for wider views and the feature plants and scenes worth showcasing in pictures. If you are available to guide me through the garden and to chat about the plants and areas most meaningful to you, even better! We can brainstorm together and come up with a must-have shot list. If a pre-visit isn’t possible, then we’ll chat through in advance about the garden areas, star plants and your photo requirements.
03. THE SESSION
I’ll arrive at the agreed time – if it’s a sunrise start, there’s no need to greet me in person until civil hours! Just let me know about entry, and I will set up & begin capturing the garden in beautiful light. Feel free to come and have a look at what I’ve recorded so far at any time. Once I’ve photographed all that we intended (or as long as conditions allow), I’ll head back home to upload your pictures and to begin the post-processing.

YOUR QUESTIONS

Help - my garden's not immaculate!
They rarely are! What would the love of gardening be without the battle of weeds, slug holes and deadheads?! Of course it’s helpful to have the garden as prepared as possible in advance of being photographed, but believe me – I want to showcase your garden at its absolute best. Sometimes that’s finding the right angles; sometimes it’s just a matter of (with your permission) removing a spent flower head so that it doesn’t detract.
I'm keen to book but not sure when?
Do get in touch by all means – my diary has to be necessarily flexible, due to keeping one eye on the seasons and weather. Even if you’re planning ahead to another season, or maybe next year, it would be great to hear about your garden ideas and to let you know how I might be able to help. It’s always good to have things to look forward to, and gives more planning time!
Could my garden be featured in a magazine?
There are a host of excellent garden magazines and they each offer something slightly different. It depends if you concentrate your efforts on a particular plant species, or offer something that readers could learn from; if you have an engaging story to tell of your journey into gardening; if you are known for your eco-credentials or your work to help those with health issues. Perhaps you have a showcase garden that would be aspirational, or that grants a valuable insight of particular horticultural or historical interest to readers around the world?
Through the Garden Media Guild, I can pair up with specialist garden writers to prepare submissions to magazines; but bear in mind that the publications have limited space for articles, and generally work about 9-12 months in advance to forward-plan their page layouts. It is always a thrill to see gardens shared in print, though, and worth the effort!
Do you offer commercial photography?
Absolutely – I’ve worked with several brands as diverse as garden furniture and Indian food! If there’s a connection to the land and its produce, then that’s perfect. Once your finished photographs are delivered, you have full rights in perpetuity to use them in whatever means you require, whether that’s in print, online or advertising.
