This truly excellent, multi-purpose garden by @mark_payne_landscape_design_ transitions effortlessly from the tulips and wisteria of Spring, to the hazy days of summer. Incorporating a tropical feel to the planting, it plays with traditional expectations for an English cottage garden… One of my favourite features is the series of moon gates, inviting you through the different spaces in the garden. Maintained beautifully by @payneandford.

Just a reminder that glorious @arundelcastleuk is open all this Easter weekend to showcase the tulip festival, as well as the family-friendly Medieval Festival. I would urge you to make enough time to venture around the entire grounds - the courtyard and kitchen garden are like a sweetie shop of wonderful colour, but the thousands of naturalised bulbs throughout the castle landscape are really something else. Narcissus giving way to tulips with Camassia just emerging - succession planting at its best.

Borde Hill garden looking immaculate on a Spring sunrise - especially exciting to hear about the ecologically forward-thinking plans for the South Park over the next couple of years, which will open it up to the public via footpaths and cycle routes. You can see South Park’s mature trees and meadow, sunlit to the south of the Italian Garden. Hellebores, camellias and rhododendrons offered pops of colour throughout the shady wooded pathways. A favourite area of mine is Paradise Walk - tulips appearing along one side, with the Chris Beardshaw-designed border opposite providing evergreen structure before the perennials emerge. And look out for the buttery-yellow magnolia ‘Butterflies’ that attracted a lot of attention!

Some more tulip content, this time courtesy of the wonderful team at @mark_payne_landscape_design_ @payneandford.
This Grade II listed farmhouse near Lewes dates back to the early 17th century; the planting has sympathetically managed to blend history with modern-day flourishes.
I was so taken with the avenue of plane trees, leading from the old front door to the wildflower meadow; in Spring, the tulips tempt you out amongst the planting to the hand-laid sunburst mosaic on the terrace.
Mark designed this using salvaged tiles from the original 17th century roof, making the perfect link between historic home and welcoming, abundant, wildlife-friendly garden. Other tulips are found scattered amongst the pebble rill, providing interest and texture as the growing season really gets into full swing.

Neurodiversity Celebration Week is next week! What

Neurodiversity Celebration Week is next week! What better way to kick it off than to highlight the work going into preparing the @adhdfoundation garden for this year’s @the_rhs Chelsea Flower Show. Garden designer Katy Terry (@goodgrounding) took me along to meet world-renowned @davidbegbie, a sculptor working with wire mesh to create distinctive, sinewy forms. David is creating almost transparent wire umbrellas, to represent inclusivity for all those who think differently. These whimsical umbrellas will be suspended from a central tree; they are also a nod to the charity’s umbrella emblem, with the surrounding planting soothing the senses and providing calm.
We both had such a buzz after meeting David and seeing how his creative mind brings his ideas to life! 1 in 5 people are neurodivergent; Katy’s playful garden, sponsored by @project.giving.back, will showcase the immense value that we bring to society, when afforded the freedom to ‘think differently’.
